Ko koe, ko au, ko ia.

Kia ora Koutou!

A wee lesson designed to get people using Te Reo Māori more confidently. As much as I'd like to, I can't claim credit for this idea. I watched the Poi E movie and Ngoi Pewhairangi (Ngāti Porou) was giving this lesson. It looked fantastic and far too good to not 'borrow'.

Ko au = me.
Ko koe = you (the person I am talking to).
Ko ia = them (the person I am talking about but not to).

Ia is a gender-neutral term: boy or girl.

Ko wai au?
Who am I?

Ko wai koe?
Who are you?

Ko wai ia?
Who is that person?

Ko Luca au.
I am Luca.

Ko Hannah koe.
You are Hannah.

Ko Ryah ia.
That is Ryah.

Have a listen to Luca, Hannah and Ryah:

I hope you find this easy to follow and useful!

Mauriora!
