Whakataukī

We are introducing a new whakataukī this term that complements our Waste Wise Ninja's unit. Thank you Susan for coming up with this one! This whakataukī will complement our 'mountain' whakataukī for the rest of the year.

He nui ngā painga o te hangarau mō te tai.

There are many benefits of recycling for the environment.

This year we are focusing on this whakataukī:

Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tuohū koe me he maunga teitei.

One translation is "Seek the treasure you value most dearly: if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain". In this case, Maungatupu is shown, as is 'the' maunga of this rohe.

We can say this whakataukī encourages us to set ourselves high standards, to show perseverance and not give up. Another way to say this is GRIT.

Some of the words are a mouthful, but with practise, and using what we know about 'A ha ka ma', it will get easier.
